Inter Captain Javier Zanetti: Serie A Title Race Will Go Down To The Wire

Reigning champions Inter saw their lead at the top of Serie A cut to four points last night as Juventus inflicted a second league defeat of the season on Jose Mourinho’s men at the Olimpico.

Juve prevailed 2-1 in an incident-packed affair courtesy of a superb second half effort from Claudio Marchisio and Beneamata Skipper Javier Zanetticoncedes the Old Lady and city rivals Milan will give his side a run for their money this term.

“The league was never over,” he told Sky Sport Italiaafter the encounter.

“Milan are doing well and these points were important. We will have to fight until the very end.”

Milan moved to within four points of the Nerazzurri after a comprehensive 3-0 defeat of Sampdoria yesterday afternoon, while third-placed Juve now sit five points behind.

Mourinho was sent from the dugout for dissent after Giorgio Chiellini’s opener and the Portuguese controversially stayed away from the press room in the post-match.

“He didn’t even speak with us,” explained Zanetti. “He just greeted us. But I think we all saw the match: it was a balanced game that was settled by a great Marchisio goal.

“There was little difference between us and Juve.”
