"It has to be Ryan Giggs, for his unbelievable service and the high standards he continues to set. He’s a truly marvellous player," he added.

The United boss was reviewing the past ten years at Old Trafford and was full of praise for the recently departed Portuguese winger, who was sold to Real Madrid for a world record £80 million in the summer.

Ferguson also named Milan midfielder Ronaldinho as the player he wished he had signed having missed out on the Brazilian back in 2003.

"He [Ronaldo] was fantastic. Just a marvellous player," the United boss told Inside United.

"We missed out on Ronaldinho but it was the same summer we signed Ronaldo which more than softened the blow. We’d agreed a deal with Ronaldinho but all of a sudden, whatever happened with Peter Kenyon and the other agents, the deal fell apart."

When asked about who he felt was the 'man of the decade' at Old Trafford, Ferguson insisted there was only one choice.
